Build dashboards your team will actually use.

Make data visible at the right time, in the right place, to the right person.

Why this matters

Most dashboards die from neglect: they answer questions nobody asked, hide what people need, and update too slowly to trust. A good dashboard gets opened daily because it changes what someone decides today.

What to do

  • Start with a single question the team currently can't answer.
  • Build the smallest view that answers it.
  • Put it where they already look: a Slack channel, an email digest, a tab pinned in the browser.
  • Add a second view only after the first one is being used for a week.

Common pitfalls

  • Don't ship more than five charts on one dashboard; attention is the bottleneck, not data.
  • Don't use weekly aggregations for things that change daily.
  • Don't hand a stakeholder a BI tool and expect them to build their own; they won't.
